About Local 420

AFT St. Louis, Local 420,  has proudly represented educators and school-related professionals in St. Louis Public Schools for more than 90 years. Chartered in 1935, Local 420 has a long history of advocating for fair wages, strong working conditions, employee rights and quality public education. The union represents teachers, counselors, social workers, paraprofessionals, teaching assistants, safety officers and other members of the SLPS community, working to ensure their voices are heard and their rights are protected.

Through collective bargaining, member representation and community engagement, the union works to strengthen the professionals who serve St. Louis students every day while supporting safe, nurturing and successful learning environments.
